Japan Exchange Program

Over 25 years ago the Rotary Club of Cerritos-Artesia started an exchange program with the city of Kakamigahara in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Although it is no longer run by the Rotary Club, it is still going strong under the leadership of the ABC Unified School District.

Every year, 20-30 middle school participants are chosen from the middle schools in Kakamigahara and are hosted by families in the ABC Unified School District for 4 days in the fall. Then, in the early summer of that same school year, 8-10 high school students are selected from the ABC Unified School District to go to Japan to be hosted by Japanese families over there.
Needless to say, it is a very popular and successful program that encourages cultural understanding and learning on a global level. It is exactly the kind of program that is necessary for the youth of today to ensure a peaceful tomorrow.
